Community

Winchburgh has a rich heritage and enjoys a strong sense of community which has led many volunteers to become involved in delivering community activities.

Welcome to Winchburgh

Within Winchburgh there is plenty to do for all age groups and interests, from parent and toddler groups though to active youth and adult organisations.

These include a busy dance school, uniformed groups, an active youth club, canal society and a very well attended seniors club.

There is also a thriving sports community including Winchburgh Warriors Netball Club, Niddry Castle Golf Club, Winchburgh Bowling Club and the newly reformed Winchburgh Albion Youth Football Club along with a host of keep fit classes held at the Bowling Club and Community Centre.

Winchburgh’s two churches offer weekly services as well as running a number of community activities through the week including coffee mornings and local meetings. Winchburgh also hosts an annual Gala which is enjoyed by the community every year.

A new addition is the Winchburgh Community Growing Group which, with support from Winchburgh Developments Limited, has introduced community planters across Winchburgh filled with vegetables and herbs free for everyone to pick.

“It is very exciting to see the master plan for Winchburgh becoming a reality. State of the art schooling, community gardening throughout the village, plans for fantastic new leisure facilities such as the park and marina, and seeing businesses starting in the village are just a few of the things that make this a great place to be just now.”

Cllr Chris Horne Broxburn, Uphall and Winchburgh Ward

From the early stages of the master planning process, Winchburgh Developments Limited has sought to build a relationship with the local community to involve them in the important decisions that would shape the future of Winchburgh, such as detailed designs for Auldcathie District Park, and plans for public art projects around Winchburgh.

A range of new pieces of public art are being planned for Winchburgh. West Lothian Council and an Artist in Residence will work with the community to oversee this ongoing delivery of public art as the development grows.

Winchburgh has an active Community Council and Community Development Trust. The Trust has recently published its own Community Action Plan for Winchburgh which sets out agreed priorities, making it a great place to live and visit.

Both organisations actively work alongside Winchburgh Developments Limited ensuring a positive future for the community and to help maximise opportunities which will come about through the development process. Winchburgh Developments Limited has and will continue to support local community organisations where possible.

It has been our pleasure to form strong associations with some excellent organisations. Winchburgh Developments Limited will continue to work with local groups such as Winchburgh Albion Youth Football Club, The Gala Committee, Winchburgh Community Growing Group, Niddry Castle Golf Club and others as we move forward. Following the 2020 lockdown the community through the Growing Group created the Winchburgh Wombles and this has resulted in over 50 volunteers coming together to take on weekly clean ups across the Community.
